Ringing in the New Year

Happy New Year, everyone! New Year's Eve is a special day for us because it was five years ago that I met my fiance! My old roommate and I had a New Year's Eve party and she had invited some of her friends from school which one of them happened to be my future fiance! I would love to say we met that night and immediately clicked. BUT my roommate actually had another friend in mind that she wanted to set him up with, so I met him and then pretty much left him alone. When we did talk, I do remember him making me laugh a lot. He did eventually go out with our friend but only on one date. (They realized they had nothing in common!) We all started hanging out and several weeks later he asked me out...I guess you would say the rest is history!

I'm Back

I am back! Unfortunately, my parents were in the dark ages and only had dial-up. Thank goodness we got them high-speed internet access and a wireless router as my dad's x-mas gift. Now we are speeding along to catch up on all our blogs. (WHAT? Sean Penn and Robin Wright are divorcing?!). Good news, I hired my string trio and might have transportation. I was talking to my soon-to-be father-in-law over x-mas and he talked about their longtime neighbors who own a limo service. Aha! So I asked if he could get some contact information and tada - we are right now negotiating on a very reasonable price.

Something I am realizing very quickly with all of this...negotiate, negotiate, negotiate!! I hate doing it, but take note - it is so much easier to do via email. I was not the best at this at the beginning and then realized what the heck and honestly - folks have been very good with lowering their price after you ask.

Also big news today - we went over to the bridal shop today and my bridesmaids tried on their dresses (three of them had not even seen them). They ohhed and ahhed. However, they easily could have just been doing this to make me feel good.

Post-Wedding Pointers

The to-do list is looking a little bit better this week. I have two possible invitation designs - I just need to decide on which one. I have set an appointment with my planner (another big yeah!). Bridesmaids dresses - I am making the decision tonight (I swear). I do feel like having a planner that is calling me is going to bring everything else together.

Funny story though...I was talking to a former male co-worker who had gotten married last year. He gave me some great pointers, but there was one that I am totally going to do. We recently went to a wedding. It was a good male friend of mine, however, I never had met his girlfriend now bride (it was definitely a whirl-wind courtship). Well, I still have not met her. How crazy is that? We went to the wedding, but they never got around to our table at the reception. But going back to the co-worker's pointers - he told me the best thing they ever did was after the ceremony was done and they walked back down the aisle together - they then went and were the ones to escort their guests from the pews...instead of the ushers. I thought how great is that?! So you can thank all your guests AND then enjoy your reception without feeling like you need to go around and greet everyone.

L.O.V.E.

Whew! I did survive the bar crawl...but just barely. It was a good time to hang out with all my friends. AND we ran into Ashlee Simpson at one of the bars. NO LIE. Her Fall Out Boy boyfriend was in concert last night. Unfortunately, she would not let us take photos of her (or I should say her bodyguard would not).

I was with one of my bridesmaids, but we were too bloated today to go dress shopping. So another week passes by without me making a decision. However, I have spent the majority of the day, surfing the websites. Plus Whose Wedding Is It Anyways marathon is on right now! Ah...what a great Sunday to fight off this hangover!

Bridezillas Unite

A friend of mine emailed me her list of complaints about wedding planning.. I thought I would include it whenever I need a laugh.

1) Wedding dress designers are pure evil as well by sizing their gowns SMALL! That is all a bride needs is to wear a dress 2 dress sizes higher than what she normally wears. Give a girl a complex before her big day.
2) That which does not kill you brings you closer….i mean this seriously. The wedding shall be seen as the event that determines what the couple is really made of… So much for pre marriage counseling. If we survive this, we are SUPPOSED to be together. No holds barred.
3) No matter how much you don’t want to be one, BRIDEZILLAS come out. They do. And the industry forces you to be one. That is for sure. If they are going to charge me 30-40% more because “WEDDING” is attached to my event, I have a right to be as bitchy as I want. I am paying to be bitchy. Give me a good deal and Bridezilla goes away.
